I am currently the GIS coordinator at the Fayetteville regional office of the Division of Community Assistance, North Carolina Department of Commerce. I manage the Sandhills spatial database and facilitate meetings of the Sandhills GIS Association. Previously I managed the library and library systems at Methodist University for seventeen years and taught GIS at the university. As manager of the Sandhills spatial database I maintain 450 data layers which geographically span an eleven county region. The local data is obtained directly from the jurisdictions. I merge data and customize data for regional project use. Some of the layers that I spend a lot of time on are municipal boundaries, protected land, and generalized regional zoning. Data from many sources is collected, assessed, and merged. I also maintain an ArcIMS site to provide easy access to some of this data by theme. The regional projects that I am currently most involved with are the land suitability models for Sustainable Sandhills, the Joint Land Use Study of RLUAC and the creation of a GIS cultural site dataset for the region. I have a graduate certificate in GIS from North Carolina State University and am currently a doctoral student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. My research interests include factors that influence the sharing or management of data, information seeking behavior, metadata implementation, and the ethical dissemination of information.
